Welcome Guide to Abidjan
Feel à l'aise in Abidjan
A short guide for international families relocating to Côte d'Ivoire — the city you are moving to, how families settle, where MGIS households live, and how to find us in Bingerville.
The city
A city on the Ébrié Lagoon
Abidjan — the chief port, de facto capital and largest city of Côte d'Ivoire — lies along the peaceful Ébrié Lagoon. It is known for its great weather, incredible infrastructure, beautiful beaches and numerous tourist attractions.
Feeling à l'aise is a French expression for the state of feeling cosy and comfortable — of wellness and contentment. The West African CFA franc is the official currency used for monetary transactions in the country.
"We believe that feeling à l'aise is important — it allows you and your family to feel at home."
Settling in
A place to balance work and family
Families relocating to Abidjan experience a society where work–life balance is at the centre of attention — where it is possible to balance career ambitions, social life and your children's education.
That is what makes the city a safe choice for many expatriates weighing a move for work: the knowledge that a spouse and children will have the best possible foundation for settling down and quickly feeling at home.
The children's-education part is where we come in. MGIS offers an English-medium education with a British-style academic pathway from Pre-Kindergarten to Sixth Form, taught to students from more than 30 nations.
Where families live
Six zones, one school run
The school provides student transportation services to and from school. The Transportation Department of the School strives to provide safe, reliable and professional transportation services to students.
For house-hunting, the routes are a useful pointer: MGIS buses serve six zones across the city — Angré, II Plateaux, Cocody, Riviera, Plateaux and Marcory Zone 4 — the neighbourhoods where school families tend to live.
Registration for the bus service is made through the School Office.
