Student Life
Every student takes one club and one activity each year. Harmonious development is the motto, not a slogan — and everything that supports a child through the school day lives on this page.

How students serveSports
We know the many benefits sport gives our students, so Physical Education classes and sports activities are given the priority they deserve.
Being involved in sport helps students develop individually and communally. They take part as individuals and as teams, building skill alongside fairness and personal and social responsibility — and taking on roles that harness their leadership and organisational abilities in competitive, creative and challenging situations.
The highlight of the sporting year is the annual Sports Day, when the school's houses compete against one another across the disciplines. It calls for full participation from every student — those not competing cheer on their houses — and parents and alumni are invited as spectators.
Clubs & Activities
Clubs and activities form an essential part of the school's extra- and co-curricular programme, with teachers serving as patrons at every level from Preschool to Sixth Form. Every student selects one club and one activity to pursue throughout the academic year — and may change them annually as interests grow.
First with UCMAS. MGIS notes that it was the first school in Côte d'Ivoire to adopt UCMAS and has taken part in international competitions in this area. Most recently, our champions travelled to Malaysia for the 2023 UCMAS competition, held from 29 November to 7 December.
Trips & Immersion
Educational trips and immersion opportunities are offered in Spain, England, and the United States.
The school recognises the importance of school-sponsored trips as a means of re-enforcing and supplementing the curriculum. Trips in and beyond the community provide a direct learning experience and opportunities for practical application.
Each summer, MGIS students join other motivated students from around the world — experiencing college life at a top university, meeting change-makers, forming new friendships and fresh perspectives, and gaining a competitive edge for university and career.
United States
Students travel to the United States for the Ambassador Leaders Program at Harvard — experiencing college life at a top university and building confidence and maturity through experiences designed to safely push their boundaries.
United Kingdom
In England, students attend the GSL World Summit — meeting change-makers and learning about leadership from some of today's most interesting people.
Spain
Salamanca is our immersion destination in Spain, with school trips made in 2021 and 2023 — students return with new friendships and fresh perspectives gained alongside peers from around the globe.
South Africa
Students also travel to the Alamau conference in South Africa, joining motivated students from across the continent and beyond.
Community Service
We believe that what is learnt in the classroom should transfer, in a practical way, to real life — that a student's education should leave its mark on his or her community.
Awareness campaigns run with CNRAO — and each October the whole MGIS community observes an awareness month, raising funds for research into prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure.
Campaigns for a better and healthier environment, from sensitisation drives to community clean-ups.
Tree-planting and sustainability projects that give students a practical, hands-on stake in the environment around them.
Support for schools in Bingerville, the town MGIS calls home.
Work with orphanages and nurseries — taking care of the needs of the less fortunate.
Student-founded · 2009
In 2009, a group of Senior High School students — under the vision and inspiration of Tamara Cham, then a Year 12 student — undertook community-based humanitarian projects that became the foundation of the first student-led, campus-wide NGO at MGIS.
Its members run clean-up activities, environmental sensitisation and community litter bins, and take care of the needs of the less fortunate — supported by the school, parents and guardians, with new student leaders taking up the mantle each year.
"Let's give, let's share and let's change a life together."
Student-founded · UN SDGs
Born of students Gaurav Vasnani and Rohit Sapra's concern for waste management and its effect on the environment, the project works to reduce plastic, paper and organic waste and to promote energy conservation in the school.
Through sensitisation sessions, waste segregation and collaboration with specialised institutions, the project plays its part in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on the environment and energy.
Through the year
The school also organises and celebrates Côte d'Ivoire Day, International Day, MUN Conference, STEAM Fair, Founders' Day, Teachers' Day, and Christmas events.
Learning coaching
We believe that every student is capable of excelling in spite of individual challenges. Learning coaching is our system of support: reinforcement lessons, delivered in small groups or one-on-one in a pull-out setting, that enable students to excel and reach their full potential.
The same principle runs through the whole timetable. High-achieving students are given challenges; those who need it receive tutorial and small-group support; and reinforcement classes continue into summer school, so that no student's progress has to wait for September.
English as a Second Language
The ESL / ELL programme supports students who speak a language other than English, building the communicative and academic language they need to take part fully in the curriculum.
Beginners work in small groups with the ESL / ELL specialist in a pull-out setting — content-based instruction covering vocabulary and the essential skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing.
How it is arranged. The ESL / ELL programme is available at additional cost, on the school's recommendation.
Health services
The school nurse is on site, and the health service reaches from first aid to the health education curriculum.
First aid and treatment of minor ailments.
Administration of medication, when authorised.
Promotion of a healthy lifestyle and disease prevention.
Emergency assessment and call-out.
A direct communication link with parents.
Health screening programmes.
Support for the health education curriculum.
Up-to-date medical and vaccination records.
Parents are notified when their child visits the infirmary.
Aseda Cafeteria
Good nutrition is crucial in the growing years — so the Aseda Cafeteria keeps the whole student body fed with snacks and balanced diets through the school day.
The school cafeteria serves hot meals, fruits, sandwiches, pizza, juice, etc. Meal tickets are on sale at the office. Payment is done monthly, termly or yearly. Students may also bring food from home.
Dishes are prepared on the recommendations of the school's food committee, and the menu is adapted to each changing season — with plenty of healthy fruits and vegetables, and special meals to mark special occasions. At lunch, every student has a choice of three meals, made through their year or form teacher.
A vegetarian meal, for students who choose it.
The default — students who subscribe to the canteen receive the non-vegetarian meal unless another choice is made.
A plain rice meal, for students who prefer it.
How to subscribe. Meal tickets are on sale at the school office, with payment made monthly, termly or yearly — and your child's lunch choice is passed to the canteen through their year or form teacher.
Bus Service
Need a stop outside these zones? Additional arrangements can be made on request through the Transport Department.
Children cannot learn if they do not get to and from school safely and on time — our aim is to bring students to school on time and take them home safely.
The school provides student transportation services to and from school. The Transportation Department of the School strives to provide safe, reliable and professional transportation services to students.
