Our Story

A school born of a search

From a garage in Abidjan to a quarry of intelligence in Bingerville.

Some years ago, three Christian families were looking for a British Christian school for their children. There was none to be found in Côte d'Ivoire, and they were left with no option but to place their children in schools abroad. The worry, anxiety and fatigue of those years led to the founding of Morning Glory International School — a school that would provide high-quality international education without neglecting Christian values and principles.

The school started in a garage, as an after-school programme and extra tuition for students with learning challenges. Over the years it outgrew the garage and moved through several premises, holding to a single vision: training students holistically, within Christ-centred values and principles.

In 2000 the school moved to its current premises in Bingerville, and that site has grown into the beautiful campus our students know today.

"Founded by three women, MGIS is built on the values of academic excellence, discipline, leadership development, and holistic education."

The ground beneath the school

An old stone quarry, put to new work

Before it was a campus, the Bingerville site was a quarry — a place where stone was cut from the earth. The school made that image its own prayer: that intelligence be quarried here instead, for the service of all the nations whose children are assembled at MGIS.

Mission & Vision

Why MGIS exists

The mission, whole and unabridged — and the twelve objectives that turn it into daily practice.

A Pre-K–12 learning environment that transforms lives through our strong school ethos and international academic programme.

That is the mission, whole and unabridged. Twelve objectives turn it into daily practice.

At Morning Glory International School, we aim to:

  1. Dispense an education appropriate to the needs of an international student body, ensuring global relevance and academic rigour.

  2. Provide a caring, stimulating, and positive environment where all learners feel supported and safe.

  3. Help students achieve mastery of basic skills and integrate higher-order thinking, laying a strong academic foundation.

  4. Develop students into principled leaders who demonstrate our core values within the school environment and the wider community.

  5. Equip students to engage in meaningful reflection, purposeful service, and the practical application of knowledge, rooted in Christian values.

  6. Provide challenges for high-achieving students, while offering tutorial and small group support for those who need it.

  7. Organise a variety of cultural activities and field trips to enrich students' global and social understanding.

  8. Furnish a varied curriculum that enables smooth transitions to schools and universities abroad.

  9. Promote effective teaching styles that inspire, adapt, and align with international best practices.

  10. Offer parents opportunities to be actively involved in their child's education through communication, meetings, and school events.

  11. Assist high school graduates annually in gaining admission to internationally recognised universities.

  12. Inspire lifelong learning by nurturing curiosity, creativity, and a growth mindset in every student.

Culture of Care

Care, discipline, excellence, unity

How this school treats people — worked out daily, not pinned to a noticeboard.

At MGIS, our culture is rooted in Christ-centred care, discipline, excellence, and unity. We are a vibrant, structured international community representing 30+ nations, offering holistic education anchored in Christian values.

That culture is not an aspiration pinned to a noticeboard. It is worked out daily — in classrooms, on the playing field, and in every relationship between staff, students and parents.

Qualifications that travel

Because MGIS is a registered centre — not an agent for one — your child sits Cambridge and Pearson Edexcel examinations at their own school, taught by the teachers who prepared them.

Results feed directly into university applications: to the United Kingdom through our UCAS centre, to North America through the Common App, and worldwide through certified transcripts. Our graduates have taken up places across seventeen countries.

Campus & Facilities

The MGIS Ecosystem — Nurturing Growth Beyond the Classroom

Grounds, laboratories, libraries and pitches — the ecosystem beyond the classroom.

MGIS is situated in a quiet learning environment in Bingerville. The campus includes gardens, volleyball, basketball and tennis areas, a football pitch/playfield, air-conditioned classrooms, libraries, science laboratories, ICT/computer laboratories, a canteen, auditoriums, a transport service, and STEM facilities.

Harmonious Development of Future Leaders is the motto; the campus is where it becomes a timetable. Every space below serves the same idea — that a child grows in the laboratory, on the pitch and in the garden as surely as at the desk.

The setting

A quiet corner of Bingerville

The campus sits in Paris Village, Bingerville, on Rue École Anglais — opposite Hôtel Freeworld, just before Université ESIE — at a calm remove from the bustle of Abidjan.

The ground itself has a story. Before it was a campus, it was a stone quarry; the school prayer asks that intelligence be quarried here now, for the service of all the nations whose children are assembled at MGIS.
