M.G.I.S Philosophy

M.G.I.S provides a sound education for children from playgroup (2yrs) to pre-university or pre-tertiary level (about 18yrs). Our ultimate responsibility is for the development and welfare of each individual student and we endeavour to achieve this by providing an environment in which understanding, tolerance and friendship are fostered.

The school's concept of education is characterised by our intention to pursue the following academic and personal objectives for our students.

Intellectual & Academic

M.G.I.S places emphasis on giving appropriate knowledge and developing the cognitive skills of the students including those of analysis, evaluation and synthesis. It aims at stimulating the intellectual curiosity and cultivating the rational and critical faculties which it regards as integral to intellectual development. The school places emphasis on consistent curricular guidelines produce by Heads of Department.

Emotional

The school believes that emotional development should include that which makes a student positively moticated and helps him/her to gain self-confidence and an appropriate level of self esteem. The student should also be able to cope with criticism and exercise discipine and self control.

Social

The school expects a student to show respect, tolerance and an ability to see other people's point of view. The student is also expected to be responsible and honest towards himself and others and show evidence of willingness to share.

Cultural

The school encourages students to develop knowledge, understanding and respect for customs, moral and aesthetic values of their own cultural environment and also of those cultures which are foreign to them.
